In 2012, LEITNER ropeways built the first of two sections for the Savognin-Tigignas 10-passenger gondola lift in the traditional Swiss ski resort of Savognin. The connection to the village (first section) has now been completed, creating a new, high-performance primary feeder for the family-friendly ski and hiking area.
The new 10-passenger gondola from Savognin to Tigignas is operating the first summer in 2020.
More comfort, space and silent
The new installation replaces a 4-seater chairlift built in 1987, significantly boosting the comfort along its two sections. As well as transporting passengers, including pedestrians and tobogganists, in comfort whatever the weather, the installation effortlessly transports the sporting equipment used all-year-round in the ski and hiking area. The Leitner DirectDrive system makes the ropeway particularly silent, so it does not disturb guests of the restaurants located right beside the top station.
Given that Leitner ropeways already built the first system of this type in Savognin in 2012 – a première for Switzerland – it was only logical to continue the cooperation from the construction of Section 1. The many positive comments, especially from families and the local ski schools, played a key role in the decision to build Section 2.
Capacity has been substantially increased
The ski resort management welcomes the 10-passenger gondola lift as a major step towards sustainably increasing the attractiveness of the Surses holiday region, one which they expect to increase passenger figures in future. The ropeway can currently transport up to 2,000 passengers per hour in its 37 cabins, with potential to expand capacity to 2,600 passengers.
That’s how high the expectations of Savognin Bergbahnen AG are. “The new gondola lift highlights our progressive strategy and, like the planned hotel projects and those already being built, it is a key milestone in the development of our holiday region. We would like to note in particular the outstanding cooperation between Leitner and the local companies involved in the construction work, as well as the developers,” says Commercial Director Christoph Passecker.
